Ink'd Chronicles holding a special tattoo day to raise funds for Breast Health Program at PVHMC

Several years ago, Terry Dipple decided that he wanted to do something to help fight breast cancer. So, he choose to fight breast cancer with the thing he is best at, tattoos.

Terry launched Tattoos for the Cure at his Ink’d Chronicles Tattoo shop in the downtown Pomona Arts Colony.

"My fiancée, Michelle, was diagnosed that August and was successfully treated at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. I found I wanted to do something. Everything that first year was sort of thrown together, but people came out," said Dipple, who got a pink ribbon tattoo that year and so did his daughter, Tess.

The first year raised $4,000 for the Beast Health Program at the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center at the hospital. After five years of Tattoos for the Cure, Dipple and his crew have raised over $24,000.

This year’s event will be on October 6th.

"I was and am impressed with the doctors and staff at the Cancer Center. We wanted to show Michelle how much we supported her, and we wanted to do something to help the Cancer Center help others. Last year we raised $8,200, and I really want to raise $10,000 this time," Dipple said.

Dipple is very emotional when it comes to Tattoos for the Cure.

"I've been overwhelmed by the support we've had from the community. This is something that is very close to home. Thank goodness Michelle remains cancer-free, but you can't help but get emotional. We've had people come in who are 18 years old and one woman one year was 75 years old. She wanted to get a tattoo because she was a survivor. We also had an entire family come in who got tattoos," he said.

"We will try and accommodate everyone that day, but it really is best to make an appointment. When I make appointments for people on the phone most of them want to tell me why they're doing this. Most of those conversations move me to tears. This experience is very meaningful to them, and it has become so real for me."

On October 6th, Ink’d Chronicles will be opening from noon till 11:45 p.m. Artists will be tattooing the pink ribbon creations, along with other ribbon colors upon request. It is $80 with 100% proceeds going to Cancer Care Center. This year they are doing something new; there will be an expanded fashion show, an art show with body painting on models, live musical performances, refreshments and vendors. You can also get a piercing for a $35 donation.

If you love the cause, but don’t want to get a permanent tattoo or piercing, they will also be doing temporary tattoos for a $10 donation.

Dipple's friend Ray Anderson, who is the executive vice president of football operations for the National Football League, has donated various pink gloves and items from the NFL to be auctioned.

"We're not dragging people off the streets and giving them tattoos," Dipple said with a chuckle. "But we will be there to do tattoos for those who enjoy them and for those people who either want to support someone or honor someone."
