Tattoo artist banned from career day
Clearwater Fundamental Middle School has banned a father from career day because they believe his career is promoting an “alternative lifestyle”.
Smith, a Florida father & tattoo artist, runs a legitimate business like any other hard working person and he believes that he has every right to share his experience and stories with his daughter’s class during career day. The only problem is that the principal of the middle school where his daughter attends forbids him from doing so, even though Smith has taken part the previous two years.
Apparently some of the kids parents complained and felt that Smith’s career was supporting an alternative lifestyle and didn’t’ want him sharing it with their children and the principal supports the parents wishes.
Smith responded by stating that he discourages the students from getting tattooed until they are at least 18 years old. He also informs the kids about the sterilizations that need to be practiced to prevent the spread of diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.
Admitting that he himself has tattoos and piercings, the principal sticks to his decision and tells Smith that it is not personal but that it is politically correct.
Smith feels that his career isn’t viewed as a legitimate job, but it is and he has long-term clients.
“This is an art. And that’s just it. I make a living,” he said.
